A 2CD set compiled from recordings by Colin Bradbury and Oliver Davies of music for clarinet and piano from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The original LP records were The Victorian Clarinettist, The Drawing Room Clarinettist, The Italian Clarinettist and The Edwardian Clarinettist.
The first CD contains clarinet music popular in England, either English music or pieces which are known to have been favourites with English audiences. The second is of Italian clarinet music of the same period, both concert pieces and operatic fantasies. Together, the two CDs celebrate the wealth of material produced for clarinettists to play at a time when, in both countries, serious major works were out of fashion.
